Kathimerini: Possible talks in Ankara on the reopening of Halki Seminary

According to the report, there has been a positive response from Ankara to a request by Fener Greek Patriarch Bartholomew to meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The meeting is reportedly likely to take place soon and in Ankara.

Kathimerini notes that the potential talks are expected to cover issues concerning the Patriarchate, matters related to Orthodoxy, as well as the resumption of operations at the Halki Seminary.

Meanwhile, U.S. Ambassador to Türkiye Tom Barrack, in an interview with Kathimerini, stated that the United States is working with optimism toward the reopening of the seminary in September 2026.

The Halki Seminary was forced to suspend its educational activities in 1971, following legislative changes in Turkey that led to the closure of private higher education institutions. Since then, the seminary has remained a prominent topic on international platforms and in bilateral diplomatic discussions.
