İskeçe workers’ union to protest against the use of ports for military purposes
The Private Sector Employees and Commercial Employees Union of Xanthi has called for a demonstration on Friday, 30 October, opposing the use of ports for military purposes. The rally is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. at Eleftheria Square in İskeçe (Xanthi), marking the International Day of Action for Dockers and Port Workers.
In its announcement, the union stressed that ports should not be used as military bases or staging grounds for military operations, calling on workers to resist involvement in what it described as the war machine.
CALL FOR INTERNATIONAL WORKER SOLIDARITY
The union said the international mobilisation brings together trade unions from more than 100 ports, which are coordinating their actions and organising further protests and strikes.
It also emphasised that workers share common interests across national borders and nationalities, arguing that they should not be forced to sacrifice their lives or rights for the profits of business groups.
The demonstration is part of a wider international campaign challenging the use of ports for military purposes and calling for solidarity among port and other workers.
