Infrastructure of Alexandroupolis Port to start soon
TAIPED is going to work on the renovation of Alexandroupolis Port, which the government recently announced that it has given up on privatization.
The State Private Property Benefit Fund (TAIPED) took action to renew the infrastructure of the strategically important Alexandroupoli Port.
According to the news in the press, TAIPED has started to work on projects that will meet the strategic importance of the port. Due to the Ukraine-Russia war and the energy crisis, Alexandroupolis Port is considered as an alternative option to the Dardanelles for the Southeast European region.
According to the information based on the authorities, it is aimed that the port will have a modern structure where larger ships can dock and increase its commercial activities. Recruiting more personnel to the port is also among the plans.
It is stated that Alexandroupolis Port has come to the forefront in the fields of trade, fishing and tourism as well as its military importance. It is noted that the fact that it is connected to Thessaloniki by the railway and the Egnatia highway also increases its importance.
With the construction of two liquefied natural gas LNG terminals, which are planned to be completed in the coming period, Alexandroupolis Port will gain a strategic value in terms of energy.
