House collapse in İskeçe leaves street closed, sparks safety concerns

The incident took place at the intersection of Karaoli Street and Papanikoli Street in İskeçe, where a residential building suddenly collapsed in its entirety.

Parked Vehicle Crushed, Debris Scattered Across Road

According to initial reports, the collapsing structure crushed a parked vehicle, while debris spread across the roadway, forcing authorities to immediately shut down the street.

Fortunately, no pedestrians or drivers were passing through the area at the time of the collapse. Officials noted that the outcome could have been tragic had anyone been nearby.

Emergency units from the Fire Service and Police responded swiftly to secure the scene and prevent further risk.

Road Remains Closed

Authorities confirmed that the road will remain closed until debris removal operations are completed and safety checks are finalized.

A representative at the scene warned that several other dilapidated buildings in İskeçe may pose similar risks and require urgent inspection and intervention.

Possible Structural Strain from Recent Renovation

Sources indicate that the collapsed structure, reportedly used as a house-warehouse, had recently undergone roof renovation with the addition of a new tiled roof. Continuous rainfall and structural erosion may have placed additional stress on weakened supports, potentially contributing to the failure.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the collapse.

Local residents are calling for immediate inspections of abandoned and structurally unstable buildings to prevent future incidents.
