High fire risk in Rhodope today
According to the Fire Risk Prediction Map published by the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, the Rodop region is classified as a high-risk area, falling into the 3rd category.
The statement from Gümülcine Municipality highlights that local conditions (topography, local winds, temperature, etc.) are conducive to a high likelihood of fires, which could be difficult to manage.
Citizens are advised to immediately call 199 or 112 if they spot a fire, providing precise details about their location and the fire's exact position.
The municipality also advises against actions that could inadvertently cause fires, such as burning dry grass, branches, or other debris; using spark-producing machinery like saws or welding equipment; and other risky behaviors including outdoor grilling, smoking out bees, and discarding lit cigarettes.
Precautionary measures are critical to prevent potential fires and ensure the safety of the community during this high-risk period.
