Greece reportedly plans drone facility near Turkish Border

Idle Factory in Meriç Region at Center of Claims
According to local media outlet Evrosnews, a factory in Kumçiftliği—located in the Meriç region near Türkiye—has been under consideration for transfer to the Greek Armed Forces. The facility has reportedly remained inactive since 2018.

The plan, if confirmed, would see the site converted into a strategic installation for production, maintenance, repair, and possible deployment of UAV systems.

Military Activity and Inspections Reported
The same report claims that senior military officials from Athens have recently conducted multiple site visits, assessing both the infrastructure and its logistical connections—including nearby railway lines.

It is further alleged that discussions are ongoing between the Hellenic National Defence General Staff and the Ministry of National Defence regarding the transfer and future use of the facility.

Strategic Implications
While no official confirmation has been issued, the reported plans have drawn attention due to the الموقع’s proximity to the Greek-Turkish border, a region of longstanding strategic sensitivity.

If implemented, it could mark a notable step in Greece’s efforts to expand its unmanned aerial capabilities and strengthen its defense infrastructure in border regions.
