Frontex decentralized structure launched in Alexandroupolis

The new decentralized administrative structure of Frontex officially began operations in Alexandroupolis, marking a pivotal step in enhancing the management and coordination of the organization's permanent corps across Greece's and Cyprus's land, sea, and air borders. This initiative aims to bolster decision-making efficiency in response to hybrid threats and increased migration flows.

The Chief of the Hellenic Police, Lieutenant General Dimitrios Mallios, described this development as a "milestone in implementing a fully integrated border management strategy." Highlighting Greece's critical role as a heavily burdened EU member in guarding external borders, he emphasized the need for shared responsibility among all member states.

Mallios commended the long-standing strategic cooperation between Frontex and Greek authorities, noting its significant impact, particularly in the Eastern Mediterranean. He underlined the importance of Frontex's permanent corps, calling it a "step forward" in addressing migration challenges effectively.

The event emphasized unified action and collaboration as essential for strengthening the EU's border management and enhancing security across member states.
