EMT region approves monthly financial support for hospital doctors
The Regional Council of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace has unanimously approved monthly financial support for doctors working at hospitals in Drama, İskeçe (Xanthi), Gümülcine (Komotini) and Dimetoka (Didymoteicho), regional authorities said.
Under the measure, up to 10 doctors per hospital will receive a monthly allowance of €300. Priority will be given to newly recruited doctors, followed by auxiliary doctors, residents in training and permanent staff.
Regional Governor Christodoulos Topsidis said the initiative aims to strengthen the public health system and address long-standing staffing shortages, particularly in departments that have struggled to attract medical personnel despite repeated job postings.
Authorities said the financial incentive is expected to help improve recruitment and retention of doctors at hospitals in the region.
