An Egyptian migrant died while trying to save an old man who was in danger of drowning in the sea.
According to press reports, Ahmet, an Egyptian migrant living with his wife and two children in Nea Makri area of Athens, wanted to help an elderly person who was in danger of drowning in the sea at Zumberi Beach. The elderly person who was about to drown was rescued by the people around him, while the Egyptian migrant who entered the wavy sea to save him drowned.
Residents of the neighbourhood shared messages on social media praising Ahmet, whom they have known for years, and asked the municipality to support the wife and children left behind by the Egyptian migrant.
