According to police authorities, the arrest was carried out by officers from the Tycheró Border Guard Department of the Alexandroupolis Police Directorate, during a coordinated operation.

The suspect, along with an accomplice who fled back into Turkish territory, allegedly used an inflatable boat to illegally transport the migrants across the Evros River, which marks the natural border between the two countries.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident and are working to identify and locate the second suspect. The arrested smuggler is expected to face charges related to human trafficking and illegal border crossing.

This incident underscores the ongoing challenges faced by Greek authorities in monitoring and securing the nation’s borders, particularly along the Evros River, a known hotspot for irregular migration routes into the European Union.
