Eastern Macedonia & Thrace Region funds operation of two municipal polyclinics in İskeçe
The Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace has approved funding for the project titled “Operation of a Network of Two Municipal Polyclinics in the Municipality of İskeçe.” The decision was signed by the Regional Governor, Christodoulos Topsidis, marking a significant social and healthcare intervention for the Regional Unit of İskeçe.
The project has been included in the Regional Programme “Eastern Macedonia & Thrace 2021–2027”, under the priority axis “Social Inclusion and Poverty Reduction (ESF+)”, with a total budget of €396,000. The Municipality of İskeçe serves as the beneficiary (SBAA of the Municipality of Xanthi).
Regional Governor Topsidis stated:
“By integrating the project for the operation of the two Municipal Polyclinics in İskeçe, we strengthen access to primary healthcare services, reduce inequalities, and shield our local communities. This is an initiative with deep social impact and tangible benefits for the daily lives of residents.”
Project Scope
The project concerns the operation of a network of two Municipal Polyclinics in İskeçe:
- one located in the Serinmahalle area,
- and one within the city’s urban center.
The aim is to provide free primary healthcare services to vulnerable and socially excluded groups of the local population.
Both polyclinics will operate in available municipal facilities and will be staffed by medical professionals hired through fixed-term service contracts.
Staffing and Services
Polyclinic in Drosero – staffed by three specialists:
- Cardiologist
- General Practitioner
- Pediatrician
Polyclinic in the urban center – staffed by fifteen specialists:
General Practitioner, Orthopedist, Surgeon, ENT Specialist, Neurologist, Urologist, Pediatrician, Gynecologist, Ophthalmologist, Endocrinologist, Gastroenterologist, Dermatologist, Pulmonologist, Radiologist.
Services offered include:
- Clinical examinations
- Electronic prescriptions
- Basic medical procedures
- Preventive check-ups
- Long-term monitoring of beneficiaries
Impact and Timeline
The project aims to address critical gaps in healthcare access, reduce pressure on existing public health structures, and improve the health and overall quality of life of residents facing social, economic, or medical difficulties.
The project will begin on January 2, 2026, and is scheduled to conclude on August 2, 2029.
The initiative is co-funded by the European Social Fund (ESF).
