Drug bust in Kastanies, Meriç: Over 20 kg of cannabis seized
Greek authorities intercepted an international drug trafficking operation at the Kastanies border crossing in Meriç, seizing more than 20 kilograms of unprocessed cannabis during a coordinated operation on Friday afternoon.
Two Arrests, One Suspect on the Run
The Orestiada Narcotics Division, in collaboration with border police and customs officials, arrested two foreign nationals linked to a criminal network involved in the import, transportation, trafficking, and possession of narcotics. A third suspect, also a foreign national, is currently being sought.
Details of the Drug Smuggling Attempt
The two suspects were attempting to exit Greece when their vehicle was subjected to a thorough inspection. Authorities discovered 41 plastic packages containing 20.6 kg of unprocessed cannabis hidden in a specially modified compartment of the vehicle.
Investigations revealed that the cannabis was smuggled from Bulgaria into Greece, with plans to transport it to Turkey. The vehicle belonged to the third suspect, who remains at large.
