Markus Trebes visited the border area near Dedeağaç and met with Greek police, Frontex and Europol representatives during a three-day visit to Greece focused on strengthening police cooperation.

Markus Trebes, deputy chief of police of the German state of Bavaria, visited the Meriç (Evros) border region on October 2 as part of an official visit to Greece accompanied by a three-member delegation of Bavarian police officials.

According to the Hellenic Police, Trebes held meetings with local police authorities as well as representatives of Frontex and Europol during his visit.

VISIT TO BORDER BARRIER
The Bavarian delegation was briefed on developments along the Greece-Türkiye land border and visited the area around Feres, where the border barrier is located.

Trebes and the delegation also met a joint patrol consisting of Hellenic Police and Frontex personnel operating in the area.

The visit to Greece took place from October 1 to 3 and focused on further strengthening police cooperation between Greece and Bavaria.

ILLEGAL MIGRATION AND INFORMATION SHARING
During meetings with Hellenic Police officials, the two sides discussed issues including the management of irregular migration, combating migrant smuggling and the exchange of information.

The visit forms part of broader police cooperation between Greek and Bavarian authorities, with the Meriç border region serving as a key area for discussions on cross-border security and migration management.
