Court of appeals rejects appeal of Western Thrace Fenerbahçe fans Association Closure Case
The Court of Appeals in Thrace has rejected the appeal filed by the Western Thrace Fenerbahçe Sports and Cultural Association, upholding a lower court decision that ordered the association’s closure over the inclusion of the term “Western Thrace” in its name.
The original ruling stated that the term could be interpreted as referring to the Turkish minority, which formed the legal basis for the dissolution decision. Following the appeal’s rejection, the association announced that it will continue its legal battle through all available domestic legal remedies.
Association Statement
In a written statement, the association confirmed receipt of the appellate court’s ruling (Case No. 135/2026), which upheld the initial decision leading to its dissolution.
The group emphasized that it considers the ruling unjust and reaffirmed its intention to continue defending its existence and activities through all lawful means.
The statement further argued that the decision represents a serious blow to the principles of judicial impartiality and the sense of justice expected in a democratic society.
Despite the ruling, the association expressed gratitude to institutions and individuals who have supported its legal struggle, including organizations of the Western Thrace Turkish minority and supporters of Fenerbahçe Sports Club.
The association concluded by reaffirming its commitment to continue its fight through remaining legal channels.
