Çınar mosque case adjourned to june 18 in İskeçe
The trial concerns incidents that allegedly took place during Friday prayers at Çınar Mosque on October 11, 2024. The hearing was originally set to take place at the İskeçe Courthouse on Friday but was rescheduled following requests linked to medical reasons involving one of the defendants and the absence of another key figure cited in the case.
The court accepted the request and ruled that the proceedings would continue on June 18.
Four individuals, including Özgür Ferhat, along with Hüseyin Baltacı, Ozan Ahmetoğlu and Murat Köse, are expected to stand trial.
Ahead of the hearing, a number of supporters and community members gathered outside the courthouse in İskeçe, while several political and community figures from the region attended in solidarity, including local officials and representatives of minority organizations.
Representatives from legal associations in Türkiye also monitored the proceedings.
During the gathering, brief tensions were reported between groups present outside the courthouse, which were contained by police intervention and calls for calm from community leaders.
Speaking to the press, Western Thrace Turkish Minority Advisory Board head Mustafa Trampa said the community was seeking “justice, rule of law and equality,” adding that participants would return for the next scheduled hearing.
