Berat Night program at Gümülcine Baglar Mosque brings Western Thrace Turkish Community together
The event was organized by the Elected Mufti Office of Gümülcine as part of a series of religious programs held across mosques in the Rhodope and Meriç regions to mark the holy night of Berat Kandili.
Prayers, Sermons and Religious Recitations
The program began after the night prayer (Isha) was performed collectively. Following the prayer, Mufti of Gümülcine Ibrahim Serif delivered a sermon addressed to both male and female congregants.
Mufti Serif opened his address by extending his congratulations on the occasion of Berat Night and went on to reflect on the spiritual meaning and significance of the blessed night, emphasizing repentance, forgiveness and spiritual renewal.
After the sermon, religious officials affiliated with the Elected Mufti Office recited Ashr-i Sharif, hymns, qasidas and passages from the Mevlid-i Sharif. The program concluded with a collective Mevlid prayer.
Strong Participation, Especially Among Youth
The Berat Kandili program at Baglar Mosque attracted strong attendance from the local community. Male worshippers gathered on the ground floor of the mosque, while female worshippers occupied the upper floor.
Notably, the high participation of young people stood out, reflecting continued interest among younger generations in religious and community events within the Turkish minority of Western Thrace.
