Alexandroupoli: Two arrested with €4,410 in counterfeit banknotes

Two foreign nationals were arrested on the morning of Friday, April 4, 2025, in Alexandroupoli by the local Crime Investigation Department, following accusations of circulating counterfeit banknotes.

According to police reports, the suspects visited a local business using a private vehicle and handed over a fake banknote during a transaction. The shop owner reported the incident, prompting police to launch an immediate search operation.

The suspects were quickly located and apprehended. Upon their arrest, authorities found €4,410 in counterfeit banknotes in their possession. Additionally, €1,300 in genuine euros, 2,200 Bulgarian lev, and the car used in the incident were also confiscated.

A criminal case has been filed against the two individuals for distributing forged currency. They are expected to appear before the Public Prosecutor of Alexandroupoli. Investigations are ongoing, led by the Crime Investigation and Case Resolution Department of Alexandroupoli.
