10 arrested in drug-related operations across Eastern Macedonia and Thrace

Greek police arrested 10 individuals in a series of coordinated anti-narcotics operations conducted across Eastern Macedonia and Thrace between May 21 and May 28, 2026, authorities confirmed.

The arrests were carried out by officers from the police directorates of Kumçiftliği, Dedeağaç, Rhodope, and Kavala as part of targeted efforts to combat drug trafficking and distribution in the region.

Of those detained, seven were Greek nationals and three were foreign nationals. Authorities said nine separate case files were opened for violations of Greece’s drug legislation.

Drug Trafficking Case in Gümülcine
In one of the key cases, two Greek nationals were arrested on May 26 in Gümülcine following an investigation by the Narcotics Division of the local Crime Investigation Unit.

Police said the operation was launched after intelligence indicated the distribution of small quantities of cannabis within the city.

Investigators determined that one suspect supplied the other with a 3-gram package of raw cannabis in exchange for money. The substance was seized as evidence.

A subsequent search of the first suspect’s business premises led to the discovery and confiscation of additional small quantities of cannabis.

Multiple Seizures Across the Region
In eight additional cases across Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, police units from Dedeağaç, Gümülcine, Nea Peramos, Kumçiftliği, and Pangaio conducted targeted checks resulting in further arrests.

Authorities detained three foreign nationals in Komotini, one Greek citizen in the Kavala region, and four additional Greek nationals in various locations across the Evros region.

During these operations, police seized small quantities of heroin and raw cannabis, as well as 9.5 narcotic tablets and one drug grinder.

The seized items were found in a residence, inside vehicles, and in personal possession during inspections.

Legal Proceedings Underway
All case files have been submitted to the competent public prosecutors.

Preliminary investigations are being conducted by the Anti-Drug Units of Orestiada and Alexandroupoli, the Komotini Crime Investigation Unit, and the Pangaio Police Department.

Authorities emphasized that the operations form part of ongoing efforts to dismantle local drug distribution networks and enhance public safety across Northern Greece.
