TİKA to reach 600,000 people in 89 countries during Ramadan, says president Abdullah Eren
In a statement marking the holy month, Eren emphasized that Ramadan represents a period when solidarity and compassion are strengthened, describing it as a “season of mercy.”
98 Iftar Programs in 48 Countries
Eren announced that TİKA plans to organize 98 iftar programs in 48 countries, alongside large-scale food distribution efforts. Through both collective iftar events and direct food aid packages, the agency aims to support hundreds of thousands of people in need.
He noted that the organization will operate across what he described as Turkey’s “heart geography” — a term often used to refer to regions with historical, cultural, or humanitarian ties to Türkiye.
“The Table Is Shared Destiny”
Highlighting the symbolic importance of Ramadan meals, Eren said:
“The table is a shared destiny. It is not merely a place where food is eaten, but where meaning is shared. It is the simplest expression of offering brotherhood.”
He added that iftar tables established across different regions of the world serve to reinforce bonds of solidarity and cultural connection.
Focus on Conflict and Poverty-Stricken Regions
Eren stressed that supporting communities affected by war, poverty, and injustice aligns with Türkiye’s historical and civilizational responsibilities.
“Knocking on doors that have been left unattended, standing beside those in hardship, and becoming a protector for orphaned children is our duty,” he said.
TİKA’s Ramadan campaign forms part of Türkiye’s broader humanitarian diplomacy strategy, positioning the country as a major global aid provider through development assistance and emergency relief programs.
