Erdoğan: "The principle of good neighbourliness is the key to the formula that will benefit both countries."
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made statements to journalists on the plane on his return after his visits to Albania and Serbia.
Upon a journalist's question on Greece-Turkiye relations, Erdoğan reminded that after the 2023 elections, an understanding started between Greece and Turkiye to solve the current chronic problem through a qualified negotiation.
Pointing out that they gave political support to this process with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has started a comprehensive study on this issue, Erdoğan continued as follows:
"It is important that there is a will on both sides to define the problems, to draw and put forward their content, and to find certain solutions. Our Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will go to Greece and hold talks on these issues. We will discuss all these issues on the basis of our holistic approach to the Aegean.
Turkiye and Greece are two neighbouring countries with historical ties. The principle of good neighbourliness is the key to a winning formula for both countries. I believe that the relations between Turkiye and Greece are moving towards better days on this basis. From the very beginning, we have been approaching the issues on the agenda of the two countries with a solution-oriented approach. We have been saying that 'the two countries can put forward the will for a solution and leave the problems behind'. We have been demanding the determination of maritime and airspace jurisdiction areas in accordance with international law for a long time. As the countries of the region, we can increase security and stability and reduce the risks of conflict only through dialogue and cooperation. We are in pursuit of justice. We have no eyes on anyone's land and our determination to protect our rights to the end is complete."
