Mitsotakis in New Delhi for India AI Impact Summit, to meet Modi
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is in India to participate in the India AI Impact Summit 2026, a high-level international forum focused on shaping a global policy framework for Artificial Intelligence.
Government sources described the prime minister’s participation as a strategic move of significant political and geo-economic importance. The summit, held in New Delhi, aims to shift the global debate on AI from broad principles to measurable social and developmental outcomes under the “People-Planet-Progress” agenda.
According to the same sources, Mitsotakis’ presence positions Greece at the forefront of efforts to shape the next phase of global AI governance, strengthening its role as a bridge between Europe and the Global South.
More than 20 heads of state and government, along with representatives from around 60 countries, are expected to attend. The Greek prime minister is accompanied by Digital Governance Minister Dimitris Papastergiou and Yannis Mastrogeorgiou, Special Secretary for Strategic Foresight.
Mitsotakis is scheduled to address the summit and hold meetings with senior technology executives and officials, including Michael Kratsios of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, Demis Hassabis of Google DeepMind, Brad Smith of Microsoft, Mati Staniszewski of ElevenLabs, Sam Altman of OpenAI and Arthur Mensch of Mistral AI.
On Thursday, Mitsotakis will also meet with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the summit.
The meeting comes as bilateral relations between Greece and India continue to deepen following the upgrade of ties to a strategic partnership in 2023 and subsequent high-level visits. Greece has expanded its diplomatic presence in India with new consulates in Mumbai and Bangalore.
Athens views its geographic position at the crossroads of three continents as a strategic gateway linking the Indo-Pacific, the Eastern Mediterranean and Europe, including through the Middle East–India–Europe Corridor (IMEC). Government officials highlighted growing cooperation with India in areas such as security and defense, trade and investment, science and technology, education, tourism and agriculture.
During his visit, Mitsotakis will also give an interview to Times Now and attend an official dinner hosted by Modi for summit participants. He is set to take part in the main proceedings of the AI Impact Summit at the Bharat Mandapam International Exhibition Center before holding his bilateral meeting with the Indian premier.
