Vaccinations for seasonal flu begin for high-risk groups
Vaccination for the 2025-2026 influenza (flu) season has begun for high-risk groups, the health ministry said on Friday. This includes children under 5 years of age, adults over 60, people with chronic disorders, and professionals in high-risk environments, among others.
The following vaccines are available, with specific ones recommended per age and state of health: Vaxigrip TIV, Influvac, Flucelvax, Efluelda, Fluad and Fluenz. As in other years, it is expected that during the 2025-2026 flu season, the influenza virus will circulate at the same time with the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
Conventional flu shots can be given at pharmacies without a doctor's prescription, according to current law, and must be entered on the National Vaccination Registry.
Health authorities in Greece recommend getting the annual flu vaccination between mid-October to the end of November, as data for the country shows that seasonal flu usually shows heightened activity in January, spiking in February and March.
