The victimisation of Turkish tourists who cannot benefit from the visa application at the door in Rhodes Island to be eliminated
Yannis Papavasiliou, President of the Rhodes Hoteliers Association, said in a statement to the local press that Turkish tourists who prefer Rhodes Island to spend the Eid al-Adha holiday but cannot reach the island due to delays in the visa application at the door, who have paid in advance, can be provided with accommodation in September and October, depending on the occupancy of the facility in the hotel they have booked.
Papavasiliu stated that another solution being considered is a refund and said: "The Turkish market is very important for Rhodes and we all want Turkish visitors to come to our island as smoothly as possible. We hope that normalisation will be achieved in the near future with the support of the state and the relevant authorities. Until then, we, as the Association, will do our best to support the visitors to our island."
On the other hand, after the forest fires last summer, the Greek government, in cooperation with the local administration of Rhodes, announced that tourists who had to interrupt their holiday due to the fire on the island would be offered a week of free holiday.
In the forest fires that broke out on the island in July 2023, approximately 135 thousand acres of forest areas were burnt and 20 thousand people were evacuated from the island due to the fire.
