Support grows for a potential Karystiánou Party
According to the first part of an MRB poll, presented yesterday on OPEN TV’s main news bulletin, two in three citizens believe that new parties are necessary, arguing that existing ones fail to address public needs and concerns.
Today, the second part of the survey was released, focusing on the possibility of new parties led by former prime ministers Alexis Tsipras and Antonis Samaras, as well as by Maria Karystiánou, president of the Tempi Association.
The poll shows that 12.9% of respondents say they would “definitely” vote for a Karystiánou party, while another 23.6% say they would “probably” vote for it. The combined 36.5% represents a notable increase—up 4.3 percentage points from the 32.2% recorded in MRB’s October survey.
A majority of citizens (54.6%) also evaluate Maria Karystiánou’s public presence and actions positively so far.
Regarding Alexis Tsipras, 20.9% of respondents say they would “probably” or “definitely” vote for a party led by the former prime minister. The data indicates a downward trend since last May. However, a Pulse survey released yesterday showed an increase in the share of those who view positively the prospect of Tsipras forming a new party—14% now, up from 11% in the company’s earlier poll.
Meanwhile, 44.2% of respondents believe the book Ithaki—which has sparked significant discussion even before its release—will harm Tsipras’s public image, while 26.1% expect the opposite.
As for a potential party led by Antonis Samaras, 15.1% of respondents say they would vote for it.
Among undecided voters, a Karystiánou-led party holds a clear advantage over the hypothetical parties of Tsipras and Samaras. Most of these undecided respondents express strong disapproval of the government’s handling of issues related to OPEKEPE and ELTA.
