Sudden change of weather on Monday with heavy rain in NE Greece
A sudden change in weather on Sunday and Monday will bring high-velocity winds, a drop in temperature, and heavy rain in several locales, the National Meteorological Service (EMY) said on Saturday.
Specifically, winds will register 7 to 9 on the Beaufort scale as of midday Sunday in the Ionian Sea and the western mainland, spreading as of the afternoon to central Macedonia, the Sporades Islands, eastern Thessaly, Central Greece, Evia, and the islands of Kythira and Crete. They will lose velocity gradually as of midday Monday.
On Sunday afternoon and until early on Monday, EMY forecasts heavy showers and thunderstorms in the northestern regions of Greece, specifically in eastern Macedonia, Thrace, and the northeast Aegean.
A drop of 6 to 8 degrees Celsius is also expected on Sunday and Monday in Macedonia, Epirus, and the Ionian Islands. EMY cited as example Thessaloniki, where temperatures will not rise above 21C (69.8F) and Athens, where they will range from 24C to 25C (75.2F, 77F).
