Temperatures set to rise in Greece on Tuesday, no heatwave expected
Greece will experience rising temperatures on Tuesday as warmer air masses move across the country, according to the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY). However, officials stressed that conditions do not meet heatwave criteria, unlike recent extreme weather in western Europe.
Temperatures are expected to reach 37 to 38 degrees Celsius across much of the mainland, with local peaks of up to 39 degrees in parts of Central Macedonia and western Greece. In Attica, the forecast high is around 37 degrees.
Winds to ease before weather change midweek
Strong summer winds seen over the past three days are expected to weaken, reaching around 6 on the Beaufort scale.
Weather conditions are forecast to change on Wednesday, with showers expected in northern Greece and the Peloponnese.
Highs recorded on Monday
On Monday, the highest temperature was recorded in Orestiada at 37.7°C in the Evros region, followed by Olenia in Achaia and Dion in Pieria, both reaching 37.4°C.
