Statement by Libyan Prime Minister Dibeybe to anger Greece

In an interview with Saudi Arabia's Al-Hades television channel, Libyan Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dibeybe made evaluations about the maritime authorization agreement reached between Türkiye and Libya and the decision that Egypt announced that it had determined the maritime border with Libya unilaterally.

"The agreement with Türkiye guarantees Libya's maritime and economic rights in the Mediterranean" Dibeybe said.

Noting that his country got its economic right with the agreement it made with Türkyie, Dibeybe said, "Libya got its economic right with this agreement. This is the right of the Libyans. No other person or state can seize it. We hope that there will be a general coordination and we want all countries to agree".

We completely reject Egypt's step
Dibeybe stated that they rejected the decision that Egypt announced that it determined the maritime borders with Libya, "It is not possible for the maritime borders and continental shelf agreements to be unilateral. We completely reject this step of Egypt."

Dibeybe, who called for an agreement to be reached by establishing a commission on the determination of maritime borders between Egypt and Libya, said, "We demand from our Egyptian brothers to form a bilateral commission and reach an agreement. If there is no agreement, there is the United Nations, there is a court, there is law. No one can decide alone. "If they see the Libyan side as weak, we reject it. If they are friends and neighbors, we will be happy with a bilateral agreement." used the phrases.

In the news in the Egyptian media on 13 December, the decision of the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah es-Sisi regarding the determination of the western sea borders of his country was published.

In the statement made by the Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 17 December, Egypt's decision to determine the maritime borders of the two countries was described as "unilateral" and it was stated that Libya completely rejected this decision.

It was a matter of curiosity how Greece, which strongly opposed the maritime authorization agreement between Turkey and Libya, would react to Dibeybe's latest statement.
