Romeo and Juliette play, in which Turkish and Greek artists act together, says curtain
The rehearsals of the play "Romeo and Juliette" by the English writer William Shakespeare, which has been staged for centuries and which is preparing to meet the audience in two countries with the joint work of Turkish and Greek artists, have been completed.
With the co-production of the Turkish State Theatres (DT) and the Piraeus City Theatre of Greece, the play, in which the love story of Romeo and Juliette, the young sons of two hostile families who love each other, will be told with a different interpretation, will say "curtain" at Ankara Cüneyt Gökçer Stage tomorrow evening.
The rehearsals of the play, which started two months ago in Greece, were completed at the Cüneyt Gökçer Stage where it will meet the audience for the first time tomorrow.
Anadolu Agency (AA) also filmed the final rehearsal of the play, which was prepared with the joint work of Turkish and Greek artists.
"WE CAN ONLY LOSE WITH HATRED"
Speaking to AA correspondent before the rehearsal, director Lefteris Yovanidis emphasised the importance of the artists of the two countries communicating, collaborating and building bridges between their countries.
Pointing out that there are many connections between the two cultures, Yovanidis said, "We have the chance to find two families who adapted the original play. One is a Greek family and the other is a Turkish family. They live together in the same city, they have many conflicts. In the end, they realise that respecting each other is the most important thing. Because with hatred we only lose, when we have love in our daily life we win."
Stating that the people of the two countries have a lot of love for each other and that there are many common points that connect the two countries, Yovanidis said, "Of course, there are some politics that keep us apart."
Stating that it is everyone's responsibility to think about the best for future generations, Yovanidis said: "New generations will live in these two countries and they need to think about what future they want and how they will live their lives in the future. I believe that their life and future should be in peace."
TO BE PERFORMED IN ANKARA, ISTANBUL and ATHENS
Yovanidis also shared his views on the experience of collaborating with Turkish and Greek artists and stated that the actors had the same experience and that they found the common language quite quickly and easily.
Director Lefteris Yovanidis also expressed that he was very excited to meet the audience and said that he was looking forward to seeing the reactions of the audience and that they expected the audience to get the message they wanted to give.
Yovanidis stated that they will perform in Istanbul and Athens after Ankara and added that they would like to perform in different cities such as Thessaloniki, Izmir and Antalya.
The play "Romeo and Juliette", which is prepared to meet the audience in two countries with the joint work of Turkish and Greek artists, will meet with theatre lovers at Cüneyt Gökçer Stage at 20.00 tomorrow evening.
