Poll: Public largely unconcerned about post-election deadlock

Most Greeks appear unfazed by the possibility that no government will emerge from the next national elections, according to a new Prorata poll published by Kathimerini.

Six in ten respondents say they are not at all worried about a post-election stalemate, while just one in four express concern — mainly voters already aligned with ruling New Democracy.

The survey reflects a fragmented political landscape. New Democracy maintains a clear lead but remains far from a majority, and no opposition party has yet mustered the momentum to challenge its dominance. Despite this, parties show little readiness to discuss potential coalition options: the government continues to emphasize the lack of a viable alternative, repeating its “Mitsotakis or chaos” message, while opposition forces focus largely on protest rather than coalition planning.

Voter anxiety differs sharply across party lines. Seventy percent of New Democracy supporters say they are very or fairly concerned about the absence of a majority, compared with 25% of PASOK voters and just 5% of SYRIZA supporters.

Analysts describe a mixed public mood. Lambrini Rori, assistant professor of Political Analysis at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, says many citizens assume a solution — either a coalition or a second election — will eventually emerge if no majority is secured. Giorgos Siakas, Research Director at the University of Macedonia’s Public Opinion Research Unit, notes widespread ambivalence: many believe the current government has reached its limits, yet see no compelling alternative, allowing it to preserve a strong lead despite doubts over suitability.

Regarding preferred coalition scenarios, 27% of respondents favor cooperation among PASOK and other center-left parties, 20% support a New Democracy–led center-right coalition, and 15% back a New DemocracyPASOK partnership. The largest share, 34%, choose “none of the above.”
