Police uncover cache of stolen passports and IDs in central Athens
Police have arrested a 45-year-old Pakistani national accused of managing a warehouse in Omonia, central Athens, where hundreds of stolen identification documents were discovered.
During a raid at the premises, officers found 419 documents, including Greek identity cards, 144 passports and residence permits. Fourteen mobile phones were also seized.
The suspect was present at the warehouse at the time of the operation and was taken into custody. A criminal case has been filed against him on charges of receiving and distributing the proceeds of crime.
The operation followed intelligence suggesting the suspect was in possession of a large number of Greek identification documents. Authorities are now investigating whether any of the seized documents had been used in criminal activities.
