PM Mitsotakis rules out early elections and cabinet reshuffle
In an interview with the Greek news outlet iefimerida, Mitsotakis rejected speculation that improved polling numbers could lead to snap elections.
“I categorically reject any discussion about early elections due to a recovery in the polls. My goal is to complete the full electoral cycle,” he said, emphasizing that political stability is a key advantage for Greece.
The prime minister also dismissed the possibility of changes to the government lineup, saying the current cabinet is functioning satisfactorily.
“We have a lot of work to do and a government that is working effectively,” he said.
Iran issue
Commenting on developments related to the war involving Iran, Mitsotakis said Greece must be prepared for all possible scenarios, warning that a prolonged conflict affecting oil and natural gas flows could impact both the European and Greek economies.
He noted that the government may introduce additional support measures if necessary, but said such steps would depend on how the situation evolves.
Mitsotakis also highlighted Greece’s commitment to security and its support for Cyprus, saying Athens had sent a clear message that Cyprus “should not feel alone” and had mobilized other European countries in support.
He added that Greece’s armed forces demonstrated their readiness during the crisis, noting that naval vessels and aircraft were deployed to Cyprus within hours after a decision by the government’s national security council.
