PM Mitsotakis asks EU for a more active role in the fight against climate crisis and natural disasters
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis demanded the EU to be more active in the fight against the climate crisis and natural disasters. During his meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron, Mr Mitsotakis discussed bilateral relations and EU policies. Issues such as the problem of irregular migration and the protection of the EU's external borders were also discussed.
Mr Mitsotakis met with French President Emmanuel Macron in Valletta, the capital of Malta, where he travelled as part of the EU member Southern European Countries (MED9) Summit.
According to the statement released by the Greek Prime Minister's Office, bilateral relations and EU policies were discussed during the meeting.
The two leaders expressed their satisfaction with their defence cooperation and Mitsotakis thanked Macron for France's support in extinguishing the forest fires in Greece this summer.
Mitsotakis emphasised that the EU should be more active in combating natural disasters and adapting to the climate crisis.
The meeting focused on the problem of irregular migration and discussed issues such as cooperation with third countries from which irregular migrants come and the protection of the EU's external borders.
