Payments approved for 400,000 TEBA beneficiaries: Aid to be provided monthly via cards
According to a new regulation prepared by the Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family, assistance will no longer be distributed in kind. Instead, beneficiaries will receive monthly cash support through prepaid cards or vouchers, marking a significant shift in the implementation of the program.
Monthly Cash Support Instead of In-Kind Aid
Reports in the Greek media indicate that the new system is expected to be implemented in the first half of the year, with all outstanding retroactive payments completed during the same period.
The monthly assistance amount will be equal to the Social Solidarity Income (KEA) currently provided by the state.
Under the new model, monthly payments will be as follows:
- Single-person household: €216
- Couple without children: €324
- Three-person family: €378
- Four-person family: €432
In addition, beneficiaries will receive:
- €108 for each additional adult
- €54 for each child
Retroactive Payments Covering 28 Months
If payments begin in June 2026, beneficiaries will receive a lump-sum retroactive payment covering the period from February 2024 to May 2026, totaling 28 months.
Estimated retroactive payments include:
- Single-person household: €6,048
- Couple without children: €9,072
- Three-person family: €10,584
- Four-person family: €12,096
Under the revised system, product distribution will be discontinued, and all support will be delivered exclusively through prepaid cards or vouchers.
Fully Aligned with EU Funding Framework
The TEBA program will be implemented in full compliance with the 2021–2027 EU funding framework (ESPA) and has already received approval from the European Commission.
In a letter sent to regional governors, Minister of Social Cohesion and Family Domna Mihailidu called for all necessary measures to ensure a smooth transition to the new system and urged closer cooperation among relevant institutions.
The Ministry emphasized that delays in implementation risk the effective use of existing EU funds and continue to prolong hardship for citizens who are still waiting for tangible support.
