Parliamentary question about factory waste from Zeybek

Xanthi Deputy Zeybek stated that the "MAITEX SA" factory in Katramio (Karaköy), Xanthi province, caused environmental pollution with its wastes and brought the issue to the parliament.

Deputy Zeybek submitted a parliamentary question to the Ministry of Environment and Energy on the subject.

In the parliamentary question Zeybek noted that the complaints about the "MAITEX SA" factory operating in Katramio (Karaköy), once again violating the regulations and polluting the environment with industrial wastes, were brought up again by the residents of Karaköy, Alkioni (Alıtçılar) and Avksendio villages.

Reminding that fines were imposed on the factory in the past, Zeybek stated that the bad smell and wastewater emitted from the factory, passing through the arable lands and reaching the sea through a canal, was reported to the Xanthi Public Health Directorate in 2012 by the residents of the region.

Zeybek made the following statement:

“In the intervening period, the emission problem has decreased, but unfortunately, recently, the business has reverted to its old tactic, making the lives of the residents unbearable again and continuing to endanger their health.”  Deputy Hüseyin Zeybek emphasized that according to the results obtained from the samples taken from the wastewater and canal water, it is understood that it can cause irreversible environmental damage.

Zeybek included the following questions in the parliamentary question to the Ministry of Environment and Energy.

 - What measures does it plan to take to solve the problem of residents and protect the environment?

- Has it been determined whether the industrial unit that continues its activity violates the natural environmental conditions, and if so, what are they?

An answer from the ministry is expected.
