Opposition parties criticize Mitsotakis meeting with Netanyahu in New York
Greek opposition parties on Friday criticized Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis' meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in New York, with MeRA25 calling images of the two leaders together "an image of shame for the country."
MeRA25, founded by former Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis, accused Mitsotakis of helping rehabilitate Netanyahu's image and rejected the government's arguments for closer ties with Israel.
The party said explanations centered on "strategic cooperation," defense systems and energy deals served as a cover for a policy that supports Israel's actions in Gaza.
"No cooperation with the terrorist state of Israel," MeRA25 said in a statement, calling for the "immediate cessation of all military and diplomatic agreements that support the massacre in Gaza and Lebanon."

The party said that Greece's involvement in Israeli and US plans in the Eastern Mediterranean was making the country "part of the problem" rather than strengthening its security.
MeRA25 also criticized Mitsotakis for meeting Netanyahu while the Israeli premier is subject to an International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrant over alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
'Moral decline of foreign policy, no greater shame for Greece'
Separately, Gabriel Sakellaridis, secretary of the Central Committee of Greece's New Left party, condemned the meeting in a post on the US social media platform Facebook.
"There is no greater shame for Greece than Kyriakos Mitsotakis' meeting with Netanyahu in New York," he said.
"The moral decline of foreign policy under Mitsotakis is summed up in this image," Sakellaridis added, accusing the government of tying Greece more closely to Israel's military plans in the Eastern Mediterranean.
"Greece must not become Netanyahu's satellite," he said, calling for an independent foreign policy, an end to military cooperation with Israel and practical solidarity with Palestinians.
