Opposition parties call on the government to recognize the state of Palestine
On the occasion of International Solidarity Day with the Palestinian People on November 30, 2024, the opposition parties SYRIZA and the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) called on the government to recognize the State of Palestine.
KKE General Secretary Dimitris Koutsoumbas issued a message of support for the Palestinian people, describing Israel’s attacks on Gaza as "genocide." Koutsoumbas urged the Greek government to withdraw its frigate from the Red Sea and sever all military, economic, and political ties with Israel. He emphasized that the Palestinian people’s struggle for independence is the only path to lasting peace in the Middle East.
In a statement issued by SYRIZA, the attacks on the Palestinian people were also labeled as "genocide," and the party stressed that the international community must take action. The statement recalled the International Criminal Court's arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
The opposition parties called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the delivery of humanitarian aid, and the release of hostages. They argued that the ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people must end, not only for the sake of humanity but also for peace and stability in the Middle East.
