“Ohi Day” celebrated across Greece with ceremonies
In Western Thrace, the celebrations were marked with great enthusiasm, featuring participation from students, military units, local officials, as well as state and minority schools.
In Komotini, the events began with an official ceremony at the Sword Monument in the city square. The Greek government was represented by Aristos Perris, Secretary General of the Ministry of Public Order. Also in attendance were Members of Parliament for Rhodope, Deputy Regional Governor Emanuil Tapacas, Turkish Consul General in Komotini Aykut Ünal, Komotini Mayor Yannis Garanis, Kozlukebir Mayor Erdem Hüseyin, and other local dignitaries.
In İskeçe, the celebrations were attended by Sotiris Anagnostopoulos, Secretary General of the Ministry of Development, representing the government. Members of Parliament, mayors, local officials, and institutional representatives joined the ceremony, emphasizing the historical significance and patriotic spirit of Ohi Day.
In both cities, students, associations, and military units participated in the traditional parade.
In Gümülcine, Turkish minority schools — including Celal Bayar Minority Secondary School–High School, Turkish primary schools, and Medrese-i Hayriye School — proudly marched in the parade.
In İskeçe, students from the Central Turkish Minority Primary School, Turkish Minority Secondary School–High School, and Medrese also took part, adding color and vibrancy to the celebrations.
