MP Baran calls for new political vision amid growing public distrust
Independent İskeçe MP Dr. Burhan Baran has called for a new political approach in Greece, arguing that the growing crisis of public trust in politics is the result of years of polarization, rigid party structures and a failure to address citizens' real concerns with a long-term vision.
In a statement shared on his personal social media account, Baran said restoring confidence in the political system requires moving beyond traditional political practices and embracing policies centered on the needs of society rather than narrow party interests.
Calls for equality, development and stronger institutions
Baran said Greece needs a political model based on sustainable development, social solidarity, stronger institutions and the construction of a modern, effective and fair state.
He stressed the importance of creating equal opportunities for all citizens by supporting the productive economy, labor and entrepreneurship, strengthening public health and education, protecting vulnerable groups and promoting balanced regional development.
Highlights importance of minority and border regions
The independent lawmaker said these principles are particularly important in border regions such as Xanthi, where peaceful coexistence is essential for economic development and social stability.
Baran described the Muslim minority as an integral and valuable part of the region, emphasizing its significant contribution to economic, social and cultural life.
He said mutual respect, equality before the law and equal opportunities form the foundation for a shared and prosperous future.
Pledges to prioritize disadvantaged citizens
Baran said his priority as an independent member of parliament is to support disadvantaged citizens and ensure that no one is left behind through equal opportunities.
He argued that politics should serve society by offering practical solutions to citizens' problems instead of becoming trapped in partisan confrontation.
Calling for higher-quality public dialogue, Baran said Greece needs realistic policies based on the public interest, institutional responsibility, transparency, accountability and a clear political program capable of meeting the country's future challenges.
