High wildfire risk prompts restrictions in Gümülcine and İskeçe
The Civil Protection Directorate of the Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Region classified Gümülcine (Rhodope) under a high wildfire risk alert, urging residents to avoid any activities that could ignite fires. Authorities warned against burning vegetation, using spark-producing machinery, lighting outdoor fires or barbecues, and discarding lit cigarettes in rural and forested areas. Agricultural burning also remains strictly prohibited during the fire season.
Meanwhile, authorities in İskeçe announced temporary restrictions on access to suburban forest areas as a precautionary measure. The move aims to reduce the risk of human-caused wildfires during the period of heightened fire danger.
Officials called on residents and visitors to comply with all fire prevention measures and immediately report any signs of wildfire to emergency services.
