Greek Cypriot Administration of Northern Cyprus President Nicos Christodoulides had a separate meeting with Prime Minister Kiryakos Mitsotakis, who was on the island for the trilateral summit between Southern Cyprus - Greece - Israel, prior to the summit.

According to the Greek State Radio and Television (RIK), Greek Cypriot President Nicos Christodoulides met with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis ahead of the trilateral summit.

While receiving Mitsotakis, Christodoulides stated that the three countries could play an important role in the Eastern Mediterranean region through regional co-operation.

Describing September as of decisive importance in terms of how the Cyprus problem and Turkish-Greek relations will develop, Christodoulides pointed out that the UN General Assembly meeting will be held this month.

Christodoulidis also mentioned that the European Council Summit in October will also be decisive for the solution of the problems.

Stating that the solution of the Cyprus problem is of primary importance, Christodoulidis argued that the current situation cannot be the future of Cyprus.

Christodoulides reiterated that the Greek Cypriot side is ready for the resumption of negotiations as soon as possible.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said that he was in Cyprus on the sidelines of the trilateral summit between Cyprus-Greece-Israel, which constitutes a stabilising factor in the region.

Noting that he agreed with Christodoulides that the next two months are critical, Mitsotakis said that the resumption of negotiations on the Cyprus problem is very important.

Noting that Greece would be a staunch supporter of this position, Mr Mitsotakis said that he was cautiously optimistic due to the easing of tensions in Turkish-Greek relations.
