New Property Registry System introduces fines for owners and tenants

Greece is preparing to implement a new digital property registration framework that could impose fines of up to €1,000 on both property owners and tenants who fail to comply with reporting requirements.

The new system, known as MIDA, is intended to improve transparency in the housing market by creating a more comprehensive record of rental properties and occupancy arrangements. Authorities say the initiative aims to strengthen oversight, combat undeclared rentals, and improve tax compliance.

Under the framework, both landlords and tenants will be required to ensure that relevant property and tenancy information is accurately submitted. Failure to meet the reporting obligations could result in administrative penalties reaching €1,000.

The measure forms part of broader efforts by the Greek government to modernize property management systems and increase transparency in the real estate sector.
