Municipalities to shut down on Tuesday in protest over state budget for 2026
Municipalities in Greece will remain shut on Tuesday in a symbolic protest over the 2026 State Budget vote in Parliament on Wednesday, according to a decision by the Central Union of Municipalities of Greece (KEDE) on Monday.
KEDE also called on all elected staff members to join a rally at 12:00 noon on Tuesday outside the Parliament building, with the main demand being a rise in state funding to local self-governments.
The mobilization will shut down administrative and financial services at cities, while several municipalities said that social facilities, daycare centers, and centers for the elderly (KAPI), and so on, will remain in operation. Information is provided on city sites.
It should be noted that municipal employees are also striking on the same day, as the union of local-government employees (POE-OTA) is joining the 24-hour strike called by the union of civil service employees, ADEDY.
