Farmers to hold overnight rally outside Parliament on Friday
Farmers protesting high production costs will hold a rally outside Parliament in central Athens on Friday with their tractors and remain on the spot overnight, a protest organizer said.
Sokratis Aliftiras, head of a farmers’ association in the Larissa area of central Greece, told state ERT television Sunday that the demonstration will start at 4 p.m. on February 13, with farmers departing the following day.
Farmers last month ended a weeks-long campaign of blocking highways and border crossings, in demand of higher state subsidies and tax breaks, following meetings with government officials. They had said at the time that they were not satisfied with government concessions.
Aliftiras said Sunday that relief measures announced at the time by the government have still to materialize.
