Less paper, more efficiency

Greek citizens will no longer need to submit birth and family status certificates for public services, as the government automates document retrieval through Gov.gr. The system launches in a pilot phase on April 30, allowing civil servants time to adapt before full implementation after Easter.
“This is an 80-year-old practice that is now changing,” said the Interior Ministry’s secretary general. A help desk will assist with the transition.
The reform is part of a broader effort to eliminate paper-based bureaucracy. Authorities are reviewing frequently requested documents for digitization and reassessing outdated certification requirements. The citizenship certificate may also be scrapped, as its data is already stored in birth and municipal registries.
