Greek far-right party investigated over alleged forged signatures
Greek judicial authorities have launched an investigation into allegations that the far-right Voice of Reason party submitted forged signatures during its formation process, according to statements made in parliament on Tuesday.
Justice Minister Giorgos Floridis confirmed that the case was opened in January and is currently being reviewed by a public prosecutor, following a complaint suggesting possible forgery.
According to local media reports, photocopies of the party’s founding declaration — which included the signatures of citizens — were forwarded from the Supreme Court to the Interior Ministry, the body responsible for overseeing political parties and elections. Officials are now examining the authenticity of those signatures.
The Voice of Reason was established in 2023 by Afroditi Latinopoulou, a lawyer, former tennis player, and ex-parliamentary candidate with the ruling New Democracy party. The group is known for its far-right, ultranationalist positions, advocating for strict immigration policies, deportation of undocumented migrants, opposition to same-sex marriage, and the introduction of the death penalty for severe crimes.
In the 2023 national elections, the party received 0.43% of the vote, but its support grew significantly in the 2024 European Parliament elections, reaching 3.2%. This result secured Latinopoulou a seat in the Patriots for Europe group.
Recent opinion polls indicate rising support for the party, with current estimates placing it at around 8%.
