This is part of Greece's long-term defense procurement program.

Dendias made this announcement during the launch ceremony of one of the previously ordered frigates, the "NEARHOS," in France. He expressed satisfaction at the prospect of acquiring an additional frigate of the same type, emphasizing Greece's commitment to strengthening its naval capabilities.

The minister also highlighted that three of the four "Belharra" frigates would be equipped with "Scalp Naval" cruise missiles, enhancing Greece's naval defense capabilities as part of its 12-year defense modernization plan.

Dendias revealed that the Greek Defense Ministry has presented a 20-year defense procurement plan to Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, which will be submitted to the parliament. This plan includes the modernization of the Hellenic Navy's "MEKO" frigates, "Russen" missile boats, and submarines. Additionally, Greece intends to acquire four "Island" patrol boats, participate in the production of "Constellation" frigates, and join the European corvette program.

Previously, Greece had placed an order for three "Belharra" frigates from France as part of its efforts to bolster its naval power.
