Overseas voter registrations pass 15,000
More than 15,000 Greeks living abroad have registered to vote in Greece’s next parliamentary elections, five weeks after the overseas voter platform opened, according to the Interior Ministry.
Officials expect registrations to continue increasing, with a possible final total of about 60,000.
Europe accounts for most registrations
Interior Ministry Secretary-General for Domestic Affairs Athanasios Balermpas said the estimate was based on registration trends on the postal-voting platform.
About 60% of those registered are men and 40% are women, with most living in Europe. Around two-thirds are aged between 31 and 50.
About 6,000 registrants have indicated that they would prefer to vote in person abroad.
Platform remains open until elections are called
The online platform, apodimoi.ypes.gov.gr, opened on Aug. 2 and will remain available until 24 hours after elections are officially called.
Users do not need Taxisnet codes to register and can verify their identity by presenting a passport to a camera.
In the 2024 European Parliament elections, 48,894 Greeks living abroad registered for postal voting, with the largest numbers coming from Germany, Britain and the United States.
