Greece, Israel sign strategic defense cooperation agreement
During the meeting, the two ministers reached a consensus on strengthening bilateral defense ties, including Greece’s procurement of Israeli-made high-technology defense systems to enhance its military capabilities.
Multi-Layered Air Defense Reinforcement
Under the agreement, Greece plans to acquire Israeli-produced Barak, Spyder, and David’s Sling air defense systems to reinforce the protection of its airspace. The deal also includes the procurement of ELM-2084 early warning radars to improve surveillance and detection capabilities, as well as the integration of Israeli-manufactured advanced munitions into the Greek Air Force’s fighter jet inventory.
Advanced Technologies for Land and Naval Forces
For the Greek Land Forces, the procurement process for PULS multiple launch rocket systems has been initiated. Talks are also ongoing regarding the acquisition of Lora and Predator Hawk ballistic missiles, along with loitering munition systems.
The cooperation further plans for an increase in the number of Heron Mk II unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) operated by Greece, as well as the development of defense technologies against unmanned surface and maritime systems, reflecting emerging security challenges in the region.
2026 Defense Cooperation Program
As part of the agreement, Greece and Israel signed a Defense Cooperation Program for 2026, which includes a total of 54 joint activities.
Minister Dendias emphasized that the partnership goes beyond arms procurement, highlighting strategic collaboration in cyber defense, innovation, and research and development (R&D). He noted that the agreement represents a deepening of strategic alignment between the two countries in response to evolving regional and global security dynamics.
