Greece and Israel hold naval drill
Greek and Israeli naval forces conducted a joint military exercise in the eastern Mediterranean several days ago, according to media reports on Thursday.
The exercise involved two Greek frigates and two Israeli missile boats and was conducted under what Kathimerini described as highly demanding operational scenarios.
Drill focused on maritime threats
The exercise included scenarios involving the identification and response to maritime threats, search-and-rescue operations and emergency management.
The drill was intended to strengthen interoperability between the two navies and improve operational cooperation, according to the report.
The exercise was also described as carrying symbolic significance amid heightened security and political tensions in the eastern Mediterranean.
Türkiye urges regional cooperation
Türkiye has repeatedly called for the eastern Mediterranean to remain an area of cooperation rather than confrontation.
Following a meeting with Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis in June, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stressed the importance of avoiding actions that could undermine regional stability or be directed against Türkiye.
