Farmers begin withdrawing tractors from highway
Farmers have begun withdrawing tractors from the Athens–Lamia national highway, where blockades had remained in place for the past 53 days.
The final tractors are expected to leave by Friday noon, following decisions taken at general assemblies by farmers from Fthiotida, Boeotia and Evia.
Farmers said the withdrawal would be carried out in an organized manner, stressing that the mobilization is not ending but being reassessed. Blockade committees are evaluating developments and considering alternative forms of protest to continue pressing their demands.
Tractors will be removed gradually from key blockade points, including Kastro, Atalanti and Bralos, starting Friday morning. In Evia, tractors have already been cleared from the High Bridge of Chalkida.
Farmers in İskeçe end the protest
Separately, farmers in İskeçe (Xanthi) have decided to end their protests after 47 days. Tractors were withdrawn from the İskeçe (Xanthi) customs post on Thursday.
According to their representatives, the farmers were dissatisfied with their recent meeting with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and said no new concessions were offered. Their only remaining participation may be in a nationwide rally in Athens, should one be scheduled.
